Our History
The business was started as a small metal refinery workshop in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong in the 1960s. The workshop first collected metal scraps from high-end jewelers and artisans and together the unwanted scraps are refined into high purity metal bars, restoring the metal’s original commodity value through a series physical and chemical refinery methods. The scale of the refinery later expanded to cover consumer electronics and watches as the economy and trade position of Hong Kong shifted.
Mr Jimmy Kwok, founding Chairman of our Group returned to Hong Kong in 1970 as a fresh graduate after studying chemistry aboard. He brought back advanced knowledge and scientific expertise to the people and founded RAM-CHEM group to become one of the first precious chemical manufacturers in Hong Kong. The Group’s business further diversified into environmental engineering and distribution of overseas performance chemicals, as the demand grew among local customers and regional electronics giants.
Under the rise of telecommunications industry in the 1990s, the Group was uniquely among the earliest Hong Kong manufacturers equipped with research capabilities, which enabled the group to make many strategic decisions such as licensing in world-class plating technologies from Bell Lab & Lucent Technologies (now part of Nokia) and investing into a full manufacturing operation in mainland China.
Today, the Group is a major surface finishing technology provider to major consumer electronics brands and manufacturer, supplying over 200 products across China and South East Asia.
